About Yiwu City
Yiwu is located in Jinhua City--central of Zhejiang Province, China, with a total area of 1105 km2, which is about the same size as Tokyo. It has a population of about 700,000 people, many of whom have moved here from other cities for business.
It is located about 300 km southwest of Shanghai, and takes about three and a half hours from Shanghai by express bus. One and half hour by car to Hangzhou International Airport.
Yiwu is the world's largest general wholesale market. It covers a total area of about 1 million square meters, contains about 40,000 stores, and handles more than 300,000 kinds of products. In addition, as many as 100,000 people from all over the world visit the market daily to purchase goods. It exports to more than 200 countries around the world.
About Yiwu Market
In Yiwu, there are seven large markets surrounded by specialty stores, and the entire city is like a wholesale district. Futian Market, the largest one of the seven markets, was built at a total cost of nearly 100 billion yen, making it possible to visit these wholesale districts efficiently.
Futian Market occupies most of Yiwu Market. There are wholesalers outside of Futian Market, and you can find many products that are not available in Futian Market, such as socks, clothing, and furniture. Many of the are made-in-China products sold at 100 yen stores in Japan are purchased from these markets.
